Drill Team/Academics

(2017-2018)


On October 21st, 2017, The Cary High School NJROTC traveled to Southeast Guilford High School to compete in the first Drill Meet of the season. The cadets placed second overall, and brought home many other trophies. The cadets received 3rd place in the personnel inspection, 2nd place in the NS1 Unarmed Regulation platoon which was led by Cadet Seamen Victoria Sanderson, 3rd place in Academics. For the Athletics portion of the competition the cadets placed 2nd in push-ups, and 1st place in sit-ups. Cadet Laura Piccione won 2nd place Armed Knockout and Cadet Chief Petty Officer Robert Bowers won 2nd place Unarmed Knockout. This was a great experience for the NS1’s to get their first taste of drill meets, and it gave the cadets good practice for upcoming sanctioned meets. Although this meet did not count towards Area Six, Cary High School is very proud of the JROTC teams hard work and dedication to place in the top 3. Congratulations, cadets!

On October 28th, 2017, The Cary High School NJROTC traveled to Eugene Ashley to compete in the first sanctioned Drill Meet this year. We received 3rd place trophies in Unarmed Exhibition which was led by Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer Ryan Wood, pushups and Academics. Cadet Laura Piccione placed 3rd place in Armed Knockout , Cadet Chief Petty Officer Joey Cruz placed 3rd in Unarmed Knockout and Cadet Daniel Free placed 2nd in Unarmed Knockout.

On November 18th, 2017, The Cadets traveled to Cape Fear High School to compete in yet another Drill Meet. The cadets did not place in any of the competitions, but they learned that you may not always win, but you have to get back up and try again!


On December 2, 2017, the Cary High School NJROTC drill team participated in a sanctioned Drill, Academics and Athletics meet at Myrtle Beach High School. The team engaged in an academics test, a personnel inspection and a drill and athletics competition. The academics team placed third overall in the category while the drill team received third place on their Unarmed Exhibition routine which was led by Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer Ryan Wood. The team also received third place on their Armed Regulation routine which was led by Petty Officer First Class Joseph Cruz. The drill team received fourth place on their Unarmed Regulation and Armed Exhibition routines. The athletics team received fourth on situps and the 16x100 yard run. Overall the teams came in fifth place and qualified for the Area Six Drill Meet.





(2015-2016)

The Cary High NJROTC academic team traveled to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland over the weekend to compete in the National Brain Brawl Championship.  The Cary cadets finished in 18th place in the country in their first opportunity to compete at the national level.   The cadets who competed were, senior, Thomas Avelsgard, junior, Jacob Bulifant, sophomore, Ryan Wood, and freshman, Charlie Loyack.  Please congratulate them.  The highlight of the competition for the Cary team was in the individual round, in which Cary’s freshman, Charlie Loyack finished in 4th place in the country!  Congratulations, Charlie!! 

The Cary High NJROTC Academic Team competed on Saturday, February 6, 2016 against seven other teams in the Western Warrior Brain Brawl at Western Alamance High School.   The Cary High cadets won a decisive victory, placing first in both of their preliminary rounds and then winning in a rout in the final round.  Please congratulate senior, Thomas Avelsgard, junior Jacob Bulifant, sophomore Ryan Wood, and freshman and team MVP, Charlie Loyack!   As a result of their victory, Cary High has received an invitation to compete in the JROTC National Academic Championship in Annapolis, Maryland in April.   Congratulations, cadets! 




(2014-2015)

The Cary High NJROTC competed against eleven teams in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, December 5, 2015.  The team took 1st place in the 8×200 relay and a third place overall in Athletic events.   They also brought home a 2nd place trophy in Academics and a 3rd place for unarmed exhibition drill.  For the Overall competition, the Cary unit finished in 4th place and they qualified to advance to the Area Six championship meet in February.
