Marksmanship Team

(2015-2016)

The Cary High NJROTC marksmanship team competed against eleven teams in their regional qualifying match in Burlington, NC.
  The Cary High shooters had the highest team score in the kneeling position and the third highest score in standing and prone.  The team finished in second place overall which qualifies them to advance to the Area championship in South Carolina in January.   Out of fifty competitors, the Cary team had the 3rd place individual shooter, Jeffrey Tran, the 5th place individual shooter, Charlotte Galt, the 9th place shooter, Brendan Serianni, and the 13th place shooter, John Smilowski.

The Cary High NJROTC team traveled to Greensboro on Saturday, November 14, 2015 
to compete against nine other teams in Marksmanship, Orienteering, and Academics.  The Cary team finished 3rd overall in Marksmanship.  Our top team shooter was Brendan Serianni, who finished in 6th place out of 36 shooters, and Charlotte Galt finished in 7th place.  The other Cary 3rd place team members were John Smilowski and Sean Hart.   In the Academic competition, the Cary High team finished in First place.  In Individual competition, Cary had the highest individual score with Demarcus Mears, the second place score with Jacob Bulifant, and two individuals tied for fifth place, Alex Hill and Thomas Avelsgard.   Congratulate these Cary cadets for sweeping four of the top five positions.

(2014-2015)


The Cary High NJROTC Marksmanship Team competed against 20 teams from North & South Carolina in the Rebel Challenge Marksmanship Competition. The Cary shooters finished in 3rd place out of 20 teams. Congratulations to seniors Johnathan Tran and Dana Truong, junior Cullen Kerr, and sophomore Brendan Serianni. Team Captain Johnathan Tran was the top scorer on the Cary team.

CHS NJROTC Marksmanship Team competed in the nation-wide Secretary of the Navy Air Rifle Competition. Cary’s varsity team placed an impressive 9th out of 58 teams in North & South Carolina and scored higher than 87% of the 617 teams who competed in the entire nation. Congratulations to seniors Johnathan Tran, Dana Troung, Daniel Wilson and freshman Charlotte Galt for their impressive achievment! Cary’s junior varsity team also performed very well. They placed 22nd in the Carolinas and scored higher than 70% of all the teams who competed across the country. Congratulations to juniors Cullen Kerr and Gerald Smith and sophomores Brendan Serianni and John Smilowski for their accomplishment!

CHS JROTC Marksmanship Team Wins Regional Championship! The Cary JROTC Marksmanship Team won its Regional Championship in Burlington and now the team looks forward to the North and South Carolina Area Championship match to be held in Columbia after the holiday break. Seniors Dana Truong and Jonathan Tran led Cary in the regional, both scoring over 500 points!

Congratulations to the CHS JROTC Marksmanship Team as they travelled to Statesville Saturday, September 27, to compete in their first match of the season against eight other schools from the region. Cary represented our school in grand style by finishing as the top team in the event; and Cary senior Daniel Wilson was the top individual out of 52 competitors.

(2013-2014)

Cary’s JROTC Marksmanship Team took first place in a match at Southeast Guilford High School on Nov. 23rd. Cary topped Western Alamance, Northeast Guilford and Saint Stephens High Schools, winning by 54 points.  Junior Daniel Wilson, Team Captain, led all competitors for individual honors, shooting a personal best 248.

Cary High’s JROTC Marksmanship Team travelled to Moore County on Nov. 9th to compete against teams from Mecklenburg and Lee Counties.  The cadets came in second place in the championship-style match to an adult team from Charlotte.  Junior Dana Truong led Cary, shooting nearly 500 points.  Other members of the varsity were Dustin Marquez, Jonathan Tran and Daniel Wilson.  Junior Josh Lee led the junior varsity, and the top freshman for the match was John Smilowski.

The Cary JROTC Marksmanship Team recently was third out of 12 schools in a Myrtle Beach match that featured some of the best teams in the nation.  Cary took first place in another match in Lincolnton, North Carolina, that also involved 12 other schools from around North Carolina. Senior Dustin Marquez was the top competitor for Cary in both matches, and he was the overall individual winner in the Lincolnton match.

(2012-2013)

February 9th, in a 20-school competition in Lincolnton, North Carolina, Cary’s marksmanship team performed the best they have all year and finished as first place champions of the meet for the second year in a row. In fact, Cary cadets Dustin Marquez, Will Mooring and Dana Truong swept the top three spots of 80 individual competitors. Sophomore Daniel Wilson led the marksmanship JV team. Well Done cadets!!

Cary’s Marksmanship Team won the NJROTC Qualifying Regional held in Burlington,
defeating Western Alamance, Southeast Guilford, Union Pines, Page and Providence High Schools.  Individually, Cary boasted the top three finishers among 35 competitors, with Dustin Marquez capturing first place honors and Dana Truong edging out her sister Vivian Troung for second place.  Cary now qualifies to compete in the North and South Carolina Area Championship to be held in Columbia in February.
