On behalf of the Cary High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (CHS NJROTC), the NJROTC Booster Club is reaching out to the community for sponsorship of the program.
The NJROTC program is dedicated to the development of our young adults and preparing them for success in society. Naval Science Instructor Colonel Thomas Finnerty, USMC Ret. and Assistant Naval Science Instructor Chief Paul Brown, USN Ret. represent the foundation of the CHS NJROTC program. In addition to their full teaching schedule in Naval Science, Colonel Finnerty and Chief Brown dedicate countless hours after school, on weekends and during school vacation time to the cadets and program activities. Their leadership and devotion are the foundation of the success of the CHS NJROTC unit.
The CHS NJROTC program focuses on a balance of areas including the classroom, citizenship, leadership development, and extracurricular activities. Since its inception, the level of involvement in NJROTC has evolved to reach about 150 cadets in the current program. Many of our cadets are on the school’s honor roll, while several cadets achieve membership in the National Honor Society. The unit conducts Color Guard for sporting events and school functions, parades and various community events, in addition to competing in Drill Meets, Field Meets, Academic Meets, Marksmanship, and Orienteering events. For nine consecutive years, and ten of the eleven years, the CHS NJROTC has received Distinguished Unit recognition from the Chief of Naval Education and Training. In fact, CHS NJROTC had been state North CarolinaState champions in 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 school years for its outstanding achievements. Also, the unit was third runner up in for the top unit in the nation
In addition to instruction and competitions, CHS NJROTC unit supports community service and school service activities to develop good citizenship in the cadets, such as the Durham’s Veteran’s Hospital, the Raleigh Salvation Army - Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, and Duke Children’s Hospital. On an annual basis, the unit typically contributes more than 1,500 hours to community service and performs more than 2,000 hours of school service at Cary
High School. Clearly, the CHS NJROTC unit has greatly contributed to our local community and the positive growth of our young citizens.
The Navy provides for uniforms, textbooks, and training aids for the program, however, the majority funding for the Cary High School NJROTC unit is achieved through Booster Club fundraising, with significant support and contributions by our cadets and their families. As the unit flourishes, our funding needs have increased – this school year’s fundraising goal is $30,000. Therefore, we are reaching out to our local businesses for financial support.
Please consider contributing to the CHS NJROTC Booster Club as a Corporate Sponsor. Attached are several options to choose from, or you may contribute a personal amount. All corporate sponsorship donations will be recognized on our website, and applicable printed materials. Also, each corporate sponsor will receive a certificate or plaque that can be proudly displayed in recognition of their contribution level. CHS NJROTC Booster Club is a charitable [501(c)(3)] non-profit organization, and therefore, all contributions are tax-deductible.
We would greatly appreciate your support this year.
