Subject: Marksmanship Announcement
"The Cary Marksmanship Team has enjoyed some success in recent weeks. Two weeks ago in Columbia, SC Cary's marksmen came in 3rd place at the NJROTC Area Championship, which includes all of North and South Carolina. Cary was the top team in North Carolina. The team was led by team captain and senior James D'Alessio. Last week Cary learned they won first place in the Southeast Guilford rifle postal, beating the 2nd place team, Midland Valley, SC from the area championship the week before - by 3 shots. Sophomore Dustin Marquez led his teammates in that match. Yesterday the IMPs learned they won last weekend's match in Lincolnton, North Carolina, that involved 18 teams; making the 16-hour day last Saturday well worth the trip. Freshmen Jonathan Tran and Josh Lee led the JV team, and the varsity was again led by team captain D'Alessio, with a strong performance by Junior Aimee Winstead. Congratulations Marksmen for earning the title of North Carolina State Champion!"

Subject: Leadership Academy June 29, 2011
From 20-25 June six Cary Navy JROTC cadets attended the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Area Six Leadership Academy. The Academy was held at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. The Area Six Leadership Academy hosted 145 of the top Navy-JROTC cadets from the 66-NJROTC units throughout North and South Carolina. The cadets participated in a rigorous week which included inspections, drill, leadership, ethics, orienteering and physical fitness training. The cadets were required to pass personnel and barracks inspections, a physical fitness test, comprehensive academic tests and quizzes on each academic class. The cadets from Cary High School all successfully completed the course this year were: Anna Gillette, Nereida Rodriguez, Jennifer Suhan, Amiee Winstead and Brian Schmid.
Anna Gillette finished fourth overall and was awarded a Cadet Achievement Ribbon as an Honor Graduate. Cadet John Blackwell, a 2010 Leadership Academy graduate, was invited to serve as Head Cadet Cadre for the course this year and did an outstanding job. For his success Cadet Blackwell was awarded the Meritorious Achievement Ribbon, which is the highest award a Navy JROTC cadet can earn.
